| Description: |
Average weekly household expenditure in the Auckland region and New Zealand, by selected expenditure items. Data are sorted by household tenure, household composition and household income. Data is from the Household Expenditure Survey (HES): a three-yearly survey that collects information on households’ spending patterns. Household purchases might range from fruit and vegetables to cars and appliances, as well as spending on health, recreation, and education services. The HES also records household income and where that money comes from, such as salaries and wages, self-employment, investments, and benefits. The HES is a sample survey (around 4,500 households participate nation-wide), and results at the sub-national level are from a very small base. The data presented here has been extrapolated out to the wider region. The HES was extensively revised for the 2007 cycle. There is a strong discontinuity between 2007 and earlier results. |
